Can't say I would recommend Bleach. The first 2 arcs are very good shounen but after the Soul Society arc it just falls apart completely.

The fanfiction scene for Bleach has been completely dead for over a decade now and the recent revival of the anime for the final arc did not breathe any life into it. Probably because the final arc is god awful.

I'm new to this website, only recently finding it after a friend recommended it so I don't know what your stance is on recommendations but I would suggest Deku The Hunter: Support Hero.

A complete fic written back in 2018, the only MHA fic I can see myself recommending to others.

I would be fascinated to see your take on the R18 victimhood life simulator "Degrees of Lewdity."

From a cursory google I highly doubt I will play it, but what made you recommend it?

Yeah, I figured it would be a long shot.

I saw you reviewed a different R18 visual novel before but didn't like it, and it made me wonder about DoL. Outside of the obvious taboo R18 focus, it's a really expansive Twine game with a lot of different stat mechanics (managing money, foraging and selling collectibles, farming, etc.) and a shocking amount of consistent worldbuilding/lore within the corrupt town.

It has a huge fandom because of the self-insert appeal and the endless well of reactive story, since it's been continuously updated for years.

Bleach is the only shonen manga I can actually tolerate! Might be because it hit me at the right age, might be because it's bloodier and weirder than most of its competitors, might be because Soul Society's dystopian, bureaucratic afterlife with its own politics and factions is more interesting than the "good guys vs. evil guys" stuff you see in other shonens. There's also a murder mystery halfway through that actually surprised me with its resolution, though admittedly I was 12 years old at the time, and the fights are only *occasionally* resolved by people shouting their power level at each other (otherwise it's more about weird power matchups and/or mad science).

I can't say I _recommend_ Toriko per se, because I don't remember it well enough from my childhood, but I do remember that the core conceit is extremely goofy and leads to some surprisingly interesting action. The gist is that shonen martial artist musclemen compete to be the best hunter of rare ingredients in the Gourmet World, ultimately searching for the GOD [sic] ingredient. It's drawn well for what it is. I don't think it's long so maybe see what you think.

When I say "cultural education" I mean mangas that many people have read and get significant numbers of fics about them. I've never heard of Toriko so I don't think it qualifies.

Polyhistor Academy sounds like the author should drop it and write something that isn't a quest (easier said than done I guess.)

I'd suggest HxH over One Piece, but only because I've seen the HxH anime (the newer one) and thought it was pretty fun. I know nothing about One Piece other than its length-- I kinda assume that everyone who praises it is in some kind of hostage situation wrt sunk cost, much like the readers of "The Wandering Inn".
